RWF 3 planning is underway! We’re shooting for a late fall/early winter weekend. Details coming soon. Don’t worry now, this year will be crazier than ever before!

In the meantime, come support our neighbor, friend and local film maker Sean Williamson. Details below.

takelittlebites:

For over three years, Wisconsin native Sean Williamson has been busy filming his debut feature “Heavy Hands.” In that time he has hopped a few couches, clanked a few dranks, released two novellas, scrapped together some pennies, shot a ton of footage, gone on a bunch of dog walks and started a new band, Hot Coffin.

To help wrap up production of this movie, we’re throwing together a fundraiser at Mad Planet next Thursday (4/12). Do414 and Great Lakes Distillery are sponsoring the event. Foxtails and Feathers will be presenting a fashion show. Absolutely, Centipedes and Hot Coffin will be playing music and goofing off. Art will be hung. Great times will be had.

For those of you who can’t join us, you can support the film through kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/seanwilliamson/heavy-hands

Friends helping friends make and do cool stuff. Stay inspired.

Mega Thanks!

Still winding down from a wild weekend! This year’s festival far exceeded our expectations. All of the shows were well attended and everyone seemed to have a great time! Thanks to everyone who beat the cold and came out for the fest!

It definitely would not have been possible without a handful of awesome volunteers: Shannon Connor, Laura Lown, Martha Johnson, Miles Harbury, Adam Baas, Ivy Shineywater, Casey Hughes and Matt Plain. Thanks so much for hyping shows, doing doors and criss-crossing the neighborhood.

We owe a thanks to our sponsors: WMSE 91.7, do414.com, Milwaukee Brewing Company, Beans & Barley, Classic Slice, Fuel Cafe and Alterra Coffee!

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to all 50 bands that participated this weekend and the 9 venues that hosted them!! Peter at the Public House, Tyler at Stonefly, Steve at Uptowner and Peter at Quarter’s all helped out a lot to make the fest come together.

We’re really looking forward to seeing pictures and videos from the weekend. Feel free to post them on our facebook or e-mail them to riverwestfest@gmail.com.

Return of Riverwest Fest, 8 venues, 2 days, 1 neighborhood

Big thanks to Tom for asking to meet up with Sean and I and taking the time to write this awesome piece.

“I think in some ways Riverwest has, not a bad reputation, but people can be a little nervous about the neighborhood,” says co-organizer of the festival Sean Heiser. “Something as simple as a two-day music festival that brings in a really diverse crowd and gets people walking around the area can bring a lot of good attention to the venues and the neighborhood.”

"Even though that lofty goal may, as of right now, remain unattained, there’s no doubt that the first Riverwest Fest was a rousing success when it came to bringing people together in the interest of celebrating Milwaukee music, the people who make it, and the places that support it. Happily, there’s no indication that things will be any different this time around, or, for that matter, the next."
